A practical checklist

  1. Choose the field and activity type, then use the date the work happened.
  2. Add the crop or quantity only when it explains this job; always state the quantity unit.
  3. Close the day by checking for a missing field or a second pass that needs its own entry.
Illustrative recordA worked example

October 1: West 40, Scouting. Walked the north edge and center transect; lodged patches near the low corner. Revisit after the next field inspection. This describes the observed area without implying a whole-field assessment.

What to avoid

Do not use the time you typed the note as the work date. If you enter yesterday’s work today, keep yesterday’s date and say when the note was reconstructed.
