A practical checklist

  1. Use Planting and the actual transplant date.
  2. Enter the known plant count with the plants unit; describe trays only in notes if tray contents vary.
  3. Note the block or rows completed and any unfinished portion.
Illustrative recordA worked example

Planting · Garden Block · May 21 · 320 plants. Notes: “Four northern rows completed; count from filled trays after subtracting unused plants. Southern rows not planted today.” This explains the basis of the count.

What to avoid

Do not multiply trays by a standard count when some trays were partly filled. A rough count should be labeled as an estimate.
