A practical checklist
- Note the field section and observation date in the activity.
- Describe the image distance or include a recognizable scale reference where practical.
- State whether the photographed subject was isolated or seen in other inspected spots.
Scouting notes: “Single plant beside west fence; close-up and wider patch view attached. Similar appearance seen in two other inspected spots, not counted.” The record avoids treating one photo as a full-field sample.
What to avoid
A scale reference helps interpret size; it does not make the photo a diagnosis. Record an uncertain identification as uncertain.
