A practical checklist

  1. Open the field history and identify the activity type you are investigating.
  2. Check the work date and whether the notes describe a full or partial job.
  3. Compare earlier matching entries if the latest note says the job was interrupted.
Illustrative recordA worked example

The latest West Ridge entry is Scouting on October 1. The last Tillage entry is September 25, with notes saying only the north section was finished. Neither alone establishes a completed whole-field tillage date.

What to avoid

An absent entry means the journal lacks a record; it does not prove no work occurred. Confirm with the crew or source notes before relying on a gap.
