A practical checklist

  1. Document which previous fields make up the combined area.
  2. Create a recognizable combined field name and explain its area basis.
  3. Use the combined field for new whole-area work and keep earlier entries in their original histories.
Illustrative recordA worked example

“River Block” notes: “Combines River East and River West from April 2026 after internal lane removal.” The first whole-block planting entry uses River Block; 2025 seeding records remain under the two former fields.

What to avoid

Do not add past quantities together and present the result as a new measured activity. A historical summary should identify its sources and time period.
