A practical checklist

  1. Use Scouting and identify the inspected part of the field.
  2. Describe the patch relative to a stable landmark and add a clear photo if useful.
  3. Record identification confidence and the follow-up question separately from any treatment decision.
Illustrative recordA worked example

July 3: “Unidentified broadleaf patch beside south gate, extending roughly two rows inward. Photo attached; identification pending.” A later visit can use the same landmark and add its own dated finding.

What to avoid

A photo and a short note may be insufficient for species identification. This record helps organize observations; it does not prescribe control measures.
