A practical checklist

  1. Label a quantity with its actual unit and the portion of the job it covers.
  2. Write any separately calculated rate with its full basis in notes.
  3. Check worked area and units before doing an external calculation or comparison.
Illustrative recordA worked example

A recorded 200 L is the measured total mixture used on a section. Notes say “Total volume, not L/ha; worked area not measured.” The journal preserves the known amount without creating a rate from incomplete data.

What to avoid

The app quantity field does not calculate or validate application rates. Never infer a rate using total field area when the operation covered only part of it.
